Exchange online

There is a lot of talking about different online services and cloud computing right now and Exchange is of course in there as well and today I saw Eric Ashby talking about migrate to Exchange online. I personally think this is the way we going to do computing in the future and it’s a very attractive thought that we don’t have to care about backups, antivirus and a lot of other things anymore because it’s taken care of by pros (hopefully..). But as attractive it seems I’m not really sure we are there yet… It’s quite easy to migrate your mailboxes to Exchange online but I still lack some functionality like:

·         Be able to move the mailbox back to my own Exchange-server if I like. Yes you could export a PST-file and import that to my server but that’s not really the way we do things 2008 right?

·         Rules and some settings are lost when moved. From my experience rules are very important to users and it gets very frustrating to lose them.

·         Same thing goes for delegates in Outlook, when a mailbox is moved the delegation is lost.

·         The need of client software to get to your mailbox in the cloud.

Don’t get me wrong, I really think we are going towards cloud computing but I was hoping for more with Exchange online.
