Do you get a “550 Client host rejected: [not accepting mail from this ip]” when you send mail today?
It’s a Mxtreme issue when you have Reputation Authority enabled.
Two solutions are available to fix this:
Solution 1:
a. Remove a DNS entry’s for borderware.com in DNS servers Boderware uses.(You find them under Configuration -> Network or Interfaces).
b. Empty DNS cache in Mxtreme/XCS under Status & Utility -> Flush DNS Cache.
Solution 2:
If above doesn’t work you can disable the Reputation Authority:
Version 7.1.x
Intercept – connection control
-Clear all checkboxes under BSN
-Clear Reject on DNSBL under DNSBL Reject Intercept – Anti-spam
-Clear DNS Block list
-Clear URL Block list
Version 8.x/9.x
Security – ReputationAuthority
-Clear all checkboxes on that page
Security – Connection control
-Clear Reject on DNSBL
Security – anti-spam
-Clear DNS Block list
-Clear URL Block list
I know this was not at all related to Exchange but I had this problem first hand today…
Update: I think someone at Borderware forgot to register… A whois on borderware.com gave me the following result:

Update 2: Try do the following as well:
Go to Activity – Threat Prevention Status and press “Reset Threat Prevention History”

Sometimes one just has to share a thought, for me this is a moment just like that.
I have just finished a pre-study for a large customer (~20000 users) and found that the cost savings with a SATA-based DAS solution are huge compared to SAN. This is of course no surprise but I found the performance almost chocking! A single SATA-drive handles almost a 1000 users and it works really well.
The biggest challenge is without doubt to convince customers not to use expensive SAN-based storage. I have to admit that when I was presented with some of the facts related to Exchange 2010 storage (SATA-disks, no RAID, backup less and so on) I was a bit skeptic myself. But seen how it performs and how much you could save really made me excited.
To me this is huge! Not that a product performs in a way it’s supposed to but to be able to save real money for customers with a well-designed product.
Thanks for reading and have great weekend!

In times of economic crises some of you guys might not have been able to attend TechEd North America this year but there is good news for you! Some of the sessions are online now and you can find them here:
http://www.msteched.com/online/channels.aspx
Since you’re here at my blog and it’s mostly (what an understatement) about Exchange you might want to go directly to the Unified Communication section, in that case follow this link:
http://www.msteched.com/online/channels.aspx?cname=track&channel=Unified+Communications
I would recommend you to check out Scott Shnoll’s session about High Availability in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Matt Gussage’s Storage in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and Ross Smith’s Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Architecture!
The slightly bad news is that if you didn’t attend TechEd some of the sessions are not available (but the recommended sessions above are!)… But that just inspires you to work hard and get to TechEd in New Orleans 2010 right? See you there!
Today TechEd in Los Angeles kicked off and I’m glad to be here. The keynote was one of the best I have seen so far and I have seen a few. Just the fact that Bill Veghte did his own demo of Windows 7 was a cool thing and the demos where even better, try “shaking” a window in Windows 7 for example and see what happens…
The focus in the keynote was Windows 7, Windows 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010, you probably already knows which one on those I paid most attention to…
Good news is that Windows 7 and 2008 R2 will be released as planed around Christmas.
The demo of Exchange 2010 was the integration with RMS and Transport Rules, a cool thing but I’m looking forward to much more “hard core” stuff during the week.
Stay tuned I will try to blog every day from TechEd!
Big thanks to all attendees at Techdays in Västerås, especially you who attended my sessions about disaster recover in Exchange 2007! From the feedback I’ve got so far some of you liked it. As I mentioned I will make a decision tree for disaster recover and it will be published here on the blog. Hopefully it won’t take forever (this post is here to remind me of that) but right now I’m in the middle of a couple of parallel projects so you will have to hold on a week or so. Thanks again and I look forward to meet you all guys again!
Beta 2 of Threat Management Gateway (new version of ISA) is now released. Besides it will save my weekend I also think it will save a lot of you from trouble so check it out, you can download it here
